On the first Thursday of 2017, Alex and Ryan got married at The James Hotel in a private ceremony.

Alex got ready in a lovely suite at the James with the help of hair and makeup artist extraordinaire Rosemary Monica. The hour before her wedding was quiet and still but full of peaceful anticipation.

With just their officiant, reader, and me, Alex and Ryan got married and their ceremony was tender, loving, and hopeful.

Even though it was sub-15º in the city, Alex and Ryan braved the cold after their wedding to go to some of favorite portrait locations in Chicago: the Wrigley Building just north of the river on Michigan Avenue, the walkway over Millennium Park, and the Art Institute of Chicago. We made some of my favorite images together that day.
